BBS Star collided with Snoekgracht in Kiel Canal

BBS Star cargo   Collision in Kiel Canal closed the shipping in the important maritime hub for a few hours. The general cargo ship BBS Star got rudder failure and was left without ability to maneuver, colliding with heavy lift cargo vessel Snoekgracht. The vessel Snoekgracht hit with the bow the portside of the general cargo ship BBS Star, causing serious hole and water ingress into the cargo hold. After the collision the the general cargo ship head to Brunsbuettel for discharging of the grain and full repair and inspection. The rudder will also be repaired, which will delay the arrival of the ship to the destination point. The heavy lift cargo vessel Snoekgracht got slight damage of bow and the forepeak. the ship will be able to continue the voyage without any repairs.

   The general cargo ship BBS Star (IMO: 9196254) has length of 90.00 m, beam of 12.00 m and summer draft of 2.70 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 3,211 DWT and the gross tonnage is 2,316 GRT. The ship was built in 1999 in the Netherlands shipyard Barkmeijer Stroobos and operated for the company Arklow Shipping Nederland.

   The heavy lift carrier Snoekgracht (IMO: 9202546) has length of 168.00 m, beam of 25.00 m and summer draft of 8.80 m. The vessel has deadweight of 21,402 DWT and gross tonnage of 16,641 GRT. The ship is operated by the Dutch company Spliethoff´s Bevrachtingskantoor.
