Cruise ship Dawg Daze exploded in USA

   The charter passenger vessel Dawg Daze got explosion on board 28 miles off Portland, USA. The explosion was followed by fire on board and the officers sent immediately distress signal to the coast guard. The officers reported for one injured passenger during the explosion. The coast guard sent rescue boat with fire fighting equipment to the scene of the accident, which reached the vessel 8 nautical miles off shore. All the passengers were transfered to the rescue boat and the max was transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment. The condition of the injured passenger is unknown, but according to the press release there is no danger to his life. All other passengers are reported to be in good health condition and to have no serious injuries. The port authorities and coast guard started investigation of the accident and found that the source of fire is butane stove, which exploded due to technical malfunction.

BAHRI launched the chemical tanker NCC Najem

   The chemical tanker NCC Najem entered into the fleet of BAHRI, which is the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia. The new chemical tanker is brand new, built in the shipyard of SHINAsb (ex SLS) in South Korea with large size and capacity. The chemical tanker was part from contract for 155 million USD, signed for building of five chemical tankers in South Korean shipyard. The vessels will be delivered later in 2012 and 2013 and will form one of the largest chemical tankers fleets of the world. The company BAHRI is leader Saudi Arabia and Asia in chemical carrying and definitely is planning to grow and increase its market stake in the years of decrease of maritime transport. Part of its order is also 75,000 DWT chemical tanker, which will be built in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co Ltd, which will be largest vessel with such classification in the world.

Yacht sank in Southport, USA

   Small 20-feet recreation boat sank after collision with a platform near the port of Deep Point Marina in Southport, USA. The yacht broke its hull and quickly sank, due to the serious damages of the hull. The seamen were able to sent distress signal before sinking of the yacht using the VHF station. The rescue boat arrived at the scene of the accident and found 3 people boarded on the platform and one person in the water. The four people were rescued and boarded on the rescue boat and transported to the Deep Point Marina medical center. The medical professionals checked the situation of the castaways and transported them to Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. One of the people had serious injuries after the accident and died into the hospital.

Pacific Orca was launched

   Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the Pacific Orca, which is the world's largest windfarm installation vessel. The ship is really large with length of 161.00 m, beam of 49.00 m and depth of 10.40 m. The windfarm installation vessel is owned by Swire Pacific Offshore and will provide service for the Danish DONG Energy, as the vessel can carry and install twelve large Wind Turbine Generators, each with capacity of 3.6 MW. Pacific Orca was operate and install WTGs and wind foundations at depth of 60.00 m. The improved design and equipment on board allow safety operations and carrying of heavy wind foundation. The this has six legs, which allow the ship to lift up to 17.00 m above the ocean surface. This makes the ship less affected by the weather conditions and waves.

THH Shipping will scrap four coasters

   The Danish company THH Shipping will scrap four of its coasters, as the company was unable to find buyers for the old vessels. The four ships are Anna Stevns, Nural Stevns, Buse Stevns and Oliver Stevns. The coasters are sister-ships with length of 79.00 m, beam of 13.20 m and draft of 5.20 m. The ship were operating for the company THH Shipping for several years, but the heavy crisis, which hurt the maritime transport made the company to take such radical measures to exit from the debt crisis. The four ships are now towed to Frederikshavn, Denmark, where will be scrapped at the shipyard Orlas Product Business. The CEO of THH Shipping explained that theere is no prospect the situation to get better, so the company tried to sell the ships to foreign investor, but such was not found.

Cruise vessel Didim Mavisi caught fire in Turkey

   The cruise ship Didim Mavisi caught fire with 100 passengers on board in Aegean sea. The vessel was operating on shore cruise near the coast of Sarimsakli, Turkey, when suddenly fire started from the public places on board. The captain and the crew started fire fighting and maneuvering to the shores, where ship dropped anchor. None of the passengers is seriously injured during the accident, but the ship is fully damaged. Many of the passengers jumped overboard and swam to the shore, as the weather in the region was good and the coast was on less than half a mile. The good actions of the crew were awarded by many passengers, but they did not missed to tell that vessel was in bad condition and there were not enough life saving appliances. The coast guard and port authorities of Sarimsakli started investigation of the accident and the reason for the fire.

Russian yacht sank after collision with cargo ship

   The recreation boat Rossi collided with the general cargo ship Kelarvi in Neva river, Russia. The accident happened near the Fontanka area in St Petersburg and the beat sank immediately after the collision. On board of the yacht were 2 crew members and 13 passengers, who were rescued by the vessels in vicinity. Some of the passengers had injuries, but there is nothing dangerous. The port authorities started investigations of the accident and the preliminary information says that the captain of the boat was guilty for the accident. The yacht Rossi was sailing into a channel reserved for cargo ships and denied the warning calls from the cargo ship for collision. According to the authorities the cargo ship was maneuvering correctly following the Colreg (Collision Regulation) and made all the possible actions to prevent collision. The ship had no serious damages of the hull, but was kept for inspection in the closest port.

Towing tug sank in Philippines

   The towing tug Kosco 202 sank in South China sea, due to the heavy sea and storm, which attacked Philippines last days. The Kosco 202 was towing a barge from Shanghai to Samarinda, when was hit by transverse wind and waves, which almost overkeeled the vessel and caused water ingress. The ship lost stability and straightened the towing rope with damaged the engineering. All the crew abandomed the vessel to life raft, sending distress signal to the Coast Guard Station. The accident happened on 10 nautical miles off Capones Point in Luzon, Philippines. The rescue boat, sent from Coast Guard, saved all the 7 Korean crew members, reporting no serious injury of anyone. The barge is still drifting on three nautical miles off San Antonio, Philippines. The port authorities immediately started salvage operations for saving the barge, but due to the bad weather, it was highly dangerous.

Odfjell ordered four 46,000 DWT chemical tankers

   Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won a profitable contract from the Norwegian company Odfjell for building of for chemical tankers with deadweight of 46,000 DWT. The ships will be constructed according to the latest marine engineering standards and will have 22 coated cargo tanks, available to carry large variety of cargoes. The ships is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2014. The vessel will be designed and built with new and modern engineering, low fuel consumption and latest environmental requirements. The chemical tankers will be part from the renovation of the fleet of the Norwegian company. Odfjell plans to replace the old chemical tankers, which service is quite more expensive and operate with lower profit. The old chemical tankers most probably will be sold and will continue operations for other chemical tanker operator.
