Two cruise ships detained in Marseille for debts

Princess Danae   The two cruise ships Athena and Princess Danae, which are operated by the company Classic International Cruises were arrested in Marseille, France. The owner and operator of the ships had serious debts for crew wages and fuel bunkers from the port companies. The two vessel were detained in the port and all the current and coming cruises were canceled. The company Classic International Cruises promised that all the passengers will be repatriated and the money for their cruises will be returned. The preliminary information was that cruise ships will leave Marseille with delay, because of the strong winds, but later the cruise was canceled and the company explained the exact situation.

   The cruise ship Athena (IMO: 9398008) has length of 60.00 m, beam of 10.00 m and maximum draft of 3.00 m. The deadweight of the cruise ship is 200 DWT and the gross tonnage 1,206 GRT. The ship was built in 2007 in Split Shipyard in Croatia. The vessel has capacity for 50 passengers, who are served by 21 crew members.

   The cruise ship Princess Danae (IMO: 5282483) has length of 162.00 m, beam of 22.00 m and maximum draft of 7.90 m. The ship has deadweight of 3,649 DWT and gross tonnage of 16,531 GRT. The vessel is quite old, built in 1955 by Harland & Wolff Heavy Industries in their UK shipyard. The ship was fully refurbished in 1995 and has capacity for 690 passengers.
