Explosion on board of the bulk carrier Sea Moon off Bermuda

Sea Moon ship   The bulk carrier Sea Moon got explosion and fire in the cargo hold on 140 nautical miles off Bermuda. The vessel was loaded with coal and was operated on route from New Orleans, USA to Karachi, Pakistan. The explosion thrown crew members overboard, but later the seaman was rescued. After the accident the bulk carrier Sea Moon changed course to Bermuda and anchored there for survey and inspection. Also the injured crew member was taken to the hospital for treatment. The reasons for the accident are still under investigation, but most probably the high temperature caused explosion of gases in the cargo hold. The ship will be surveyed and fully inspected before continue the voyage to Pakistan.

   The bulk carrier Sea Moon (IMO: 9429053) has length of 190.00 m, beam of 32.00 m and summer draft of 11.60 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 57,012 DWT and the gross tonnage is 33,044 GRT. The vessel was built in 2009 in Chinese Qingshan Shipyard. The vessel was operated by the Greek company Hellenic Star Shipping.
