Crude carrier Kyeema Spirit ran aground in Estonia

Kyeema Spirit ship   The crude oil tanker Kyeema Spirit ran aground on 8 nautical miles off Tallinn, Estonia with pilot on board. The vessel was not able to refloat by its own power and was waiting the salvage operations to be prepared and started. All the crew is on board of the ship, as Kyeema Spirit is hit by large waves with height of 2.30 m and strong winds with speed of 24 m/s. The crude oil tanker has hole in the double hull and leaked large amount of ballast water, as till now there is no pollution in the area. According to a preliminary information, the vessel was not steering correctly the course, as the pilot was not aware for the shallow near Estonian island Ulfso. However, the local authorities told that they warned the officers on board of Kyeema Spirit several times for approaching the rocky shallow. The salvage operations will not be performed before the divers inspect the hull and ensure about the strength of the tanks plates.

   The crude oil tanker Kyeema Spirit (IMO: 9171840) has length of 249.00 m, beam of 44.00 m and maximum draft of 8.70 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 113,357 DWT and the gross tonnage is 62,619 GRT. The ship was built in 1999 by Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries in their shipyard in Goeje, South Korea.
