Hanjin Hirose bulk carrier

   Hanjin Hirose is one of the newest bulk carriers, which entered into the fleet of the Japanese company Kyowa Sansho. The cargo ship was built by Sanoyas Mizushima Works and Shipyard in 2011. The vessel is Panamax bulk carrier, which has improved propulsion system and long-stroke main engine for low fuel consumption and better efficiency. The overall length of the bulk carrier Hanjin Hirose is 229.00 meters, while the length between perpendiculars is 224.00 meters. The beam of the ship is 32.24 meters, the depth is 20.20 meters and the maximum summer draft is 14.60 meters. The ship has deadweight of 83,494 metric tons and gross tonnage of 44,372 gross tons. The vessel has really strong hull, designed with double hull technology, which increases the safety of the ship and its strength. Pirates attacked the bulk carrier Namrun

   Pirates attacked the Turkish bulk carrier Namrun in Arabian Sea, on 110 miles north of Socotra. The ship was on route to Greece, while attacked by 7 pirates on board of a skiff. The pirates were heavily armored with RPG, grenades and machine guns, as even made a few shots to the cargo ship. The armed private guards on board of the bulk carrier Namrun returned the fire and contacted the Military Ships in the vicinity. The pirates move away after the returned shots, but the Dutch naval vessel HNLMS Evertsen offensed them and arrested all the pirates. There were no injured crew members of the Turkish cargo ship, but three of the pirates were killed during the arrest.

Bulk Carrier ran aground near Tunisia

   The Capesize bulk carrier Flash ran aground in a mud bank near Galite Islands in Tunisia. The cargo vessel was operating on route from Baltimore to Taranto, carrying 126,000 tons of coal. The ship Flash got damage in the hull, as some of the ballast tanks are completely damaged, as the plate of the engine room is crackled too. During the accident there are no injuries and pollution, but however the coast guard is informed about the accident. The salvage operation will be started in the next hours, because some of the cargo and fuel should be discharged from the ship.

Ocean Comet bulk carrier

   The maritime transport felt serious problems during the financial crisis, as the value of cargoes transported around the world is decreasing with every quarter. However, in spite of the financial crisis the companies are investing a lot of money in new vessels, which are more modern, more economy and more profitable. The Capesize bulk carrier Ocean Comet is one of the modern ships, which was built last years. The vessel was completed in March 2008 in Imabari Shipyard by the famous Asian shipbuilder Namura Shipbuilding Co Ltd. The ship Ocean Comet has deadweight of 176,943 DWT and gross tonnage of 89,603 GRT. The ship is large, with improved cargo holds and strong engineering. Nefterudovoz-52M ship ran agound in river Volga

   The bulk carrier Nefterudovoz-52M, which was loaded with 2,761 tons of steel, ran aground in river Volga. The ship was headed to Astrakhan from Rostov-on-Don, fully loaded with cargo. The cargo ship has encountered on a mud bank and the the bow part hit the bottom, but the other part of the hull stayed on water. There were no damages over the hull of the ship, so after being tugged back, the ship continue the voyage to Astrakhan. The reason for the accident most probably was human mistake, as the ship drifted a little for the navigation route and the bow hit a mud bank of the river.

Capesize Bulk Carrier was sold for scrap

   The cargo ship Bet Scouter (IMO: 9050010) operating under the flag of Isle of Man, was sold for scrap at price of 12,100,000 USD. The vessel was property of Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp, and operated as the part of the company's fleet for 17 years. The cargo ship Bet Scouter was built in 1995 in the shipyard of Santierul Naval Constanta in Romania. The Capesize drybulk vessel has overall length of 296.00 meters, beam of 46.00 meters and maximum draft of 10.20 meters. The cargo ship Bet Scouter has deadweight of 172,173 DWT and gross tonnage of 90,312 GRT. The ship has 9 holds and large cargo capacity, but in the years of financial crisis the company Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp decided to sell it, instead of bankruptcy.

MOL sells 20 Capesize Bulk Carriers for scrap

   The Japanese maritime transport company MOL plans to sell for scrap 10 to 20 Capesize Bulkcarrier, due to the debt crisis of the company and the worsening market trends. The president of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Koichi Muto told on press-conference that the company is planning to sell up to 20 bulk carrier from its fleet in case to fill the debt hole in budget of the company for the fiscal year. The company scrapped four vessels during the previous year and all of them are 23 years old and more. The plans are the next scrapped ships to be with age over 15 years, and the first five ships will be sold in the end of March 2013.
