Chemical Tanker Reinhold Schulte was named today

   The IMO II Chemical/Product Tanker Reinhold Schulte was named today on an official ceremony in Nantong dockyard of the shipbuilder Mingde Heavy Industries. The ship is the third and last from the order made by Bernhard Schulte, which will increase their fleet and will modernize it according to the latest standards of IMO and MARPOL. On the naming ceremony were invited guests from the shipowner's office, SMC, DNV and the Shipyard. According to the official press release from the technical superintendent of Bernhard Schulte, the shipbuilders integrated the most modern technology and reached the standard of the world's top class shipbuilding. Definitely the cargo vessel is combining, environmental engineering, powerful propulsion system and really quality design.

Russian general cargo ship ran aground on German beach

   The general cargo ship Vyg ran aground on a beach in Rostock, Germany. The vessel stray from the course, heading directly to the beach. The ship ran aground in the sandbanks, causing minor damages of the hull. The general cargo ship Vyg was able to refloat alone with full stern speed, but was asked from the port authorities to drop anchor nearby and to wait for full inspection of the hull and investigation of the accident. The authorities found that the duty officer and the helmsman consumed large amounts of alcohol and were totally intoxicated. The ship was detained in the Rostock port for further investigation and sanctions from the local authorities. The general cargo ship Vyg was on route from Calais to Klaipeda, fully loaded with cargo, but most probably the delivery will be delayed.

BBS Star collided with Snoekgracht in Kiel Canal

   Collision in Kiel Canal closed the shipping in the important maritime hub for a few hours. The general cargo ship BBS Star got rudder failure and was left without ability to maneuver, colliding with heavy lift cargo vessel Snoekgracht. The vessel Snoekgracht hit with the bow the portside of the general cargo ship BBS Star, causing serious hole and water ingress into the cargo hold. After the collision the the general cargo ship head to Brunsbuettel for discharging of the grain and full repair and inspection. The rudder will also be repaired, which will delay the arrival of the ship to the destination point. The heavy lift cargo vessel Snoekgracht got slight damage of bow and the forepeak. the ship will be able to continue the voyage without any repairs.

Pirates abandoned the product tanker Energy Centurion

   The pirates left the product tanker Energy Centurion a few hours after hijacking it in the Gulf of Guinea. The vessel was tracked the followed by naval forces of France and Great Britain, which feared the pirates. They were not able to steal the cargo according to their plan, but got a lot of values ​​and techniques from the crew. All the crew members are in good health and the product tanker continued the voyage to Lome, Togo according to the voyage plan. The product tanker is loaded with 50,000 tones of gasoil and should be discharged in the destination port. Cargo ship Pacific Carrier broke in two by giant waves

   The cargo ship Pacific Carrier drag anchor and later broke in two on 1 mile off South Korean port Busan. The accident was caused by the heavy sea and giant waves from the typhoon Bolaven. The bulk carrier was anchored new Busan after the collision with the container vessel Hyundai Confidence in December 2011. The ship was under ballast and anchored before the shipowner pay the repair of the ship and the fine for the collision. The vessel was detained by the local authorities without any crew members on board. Last days the typhoon Bolaven passed through South Korea and Indonesia, making giant waves and disturbed the shipping in the region. They dragged the anchor of the cargo ship Pacific Carrier and broght him to the rocky shore, where the ship damaged and broke on two parts.

Cosco Guangzhou container ship

   One of the largest container ships of the world is called Cosco Guangzhou. The vessel is really impressive in size, capacity and engineering, built according to the latest practices and standards of IMO. The container ship was built in 2006 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in their shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea under yard number 1643. The vessel is part from line of 5 container ships with same particular measures, size and capacity. The ship Cosco Guangzhou is really modern, safety, large and environmental for operations. The length of the vessel is 350.00 m, the beam is 43.00 m and the maximum summer draft is 12.20 m. Cosco Guangzhou is owned by the Greek shipowner Costamare and operated on time charter by the maritime transport company COSCO Container Lines Co Ltd, part from COSCO Group. Costamare bought container ship Messini

   The container ship Messini was sold for 6,800,000 USD to the Greek shipowner Costamare. The financial part of the deal was cleared as the new owners paid all the acquisition price and taxes. The vessel was built in 1997 and fully repaired and maintained in 2010 and the condition is almost perfect. The Greek company Costamare agreed for time charter with Evergreen for a period of 18 months with daily value of 8,100 USD. The thrifty charter will repay large part of the amount of the container ship Messini. It is expected the ship to be delivered on 23rd September 2012. The order will expand the fleet of Costamare Shipping, as at presence the company owns 48 container vessels, with total capacity of 242,500 TEU. The largest ship owned by Costamare is the giant Cosco Guangzhou and the four other sister-ships chartered by Cosco.

Product tanker was hijacked in the Gulf of Guinea

   The product tanker Energy Centurion with 24 Russian crew members was hijacked in the Gulf of Guinea. The vessel was headed to Lome, Togo, when armed pirates attacked it and open fire to the tanker. All the crew was reported to be in good health, but the position of the vessel is unknown. The product tanker Energy Centurion was loaded with 50,000 tons of gasoil and most probably the vessel was attacked for cargo stealing. The pirates attacks in the Western Africa and the Gulf of Guinea became more frequent, as a few days ago another product tanker was hijacked and released after 5 days. Usually the pirates are interested only with cargo stealing and attack product tankers and chemical tankers in the region, as they have low free board and low speed. The navy presence in the Gulf of Guinea is quite smalled than in Eastern Africa, which makes pirates to be bolder and to attack larger ships.

Fire and Explosion on chemical tanker Soechi Lesmana

   The chemical tanker Soechi Lesmana caught fire in the engine room on 20 nautical miles off the Indonesian coast. The fire started in the engine room and was followed by explosions. One of the crew members died during the accident and another two are seriously injured. The accident happened on 20 nautical miles off Belang-Belang port in Mamuju, Indonesia. The chemical tanker Soechi Lesmana was fully loaded with 3,000 tons of petroleum products, but the cargo holds remained slightly damages. According to the port authorities the explosion came from the fuel pipes and did not damages the cargo holds. On board of the ship there were 23 crew members during the accident. Two of the seamen were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, one died during the explosion and other 20 people were transported to the port. Still there is no information about pollution during the accident.

Two Italian ships arrested in Singapore for unpaid debts

   The Singapore's Maritime Administration and Supreme Court detained the crude carrier Adele Marina Rizzo and the bulk carrier Cavaliere Grazia Bottiglieri, in occasion with unpaid debt to the companies Fratelli Cosulich Hong Kong Limited and Madeira Lda. The two maritime companies from hong Kong picked up indictment to the Italian shipowner for outstanding debt of about 4.7 million USD. The Singapore's authorities detained the two vessels and started negotiations with the owner to cover the debts. From the Italian company explained the situation with delayed payment and absolutely disagreed with the court decision. According to them, there is no need to hold the two vessels, which value is absolutely not commensurate with the debt. However, the two ships will be detained in the Singapore's port before clearing of the details in the financial relationships.
