General cargo ship Everton caught fire in Mozambique Strait

   Technical malfunction in the cooling system of the generator, caused fire in the engine room of the general cargo ship Everton. The accident happened in Mozambique Strait during operations on route from Pemba to Mitsamudu. The crew was not able to get control of the fire with the ship's safety equipment and sent a distress signal to the coast guard. Three tugs from the local harbor arrived at the scene of the accident and started firefighting and towing operations, to take out the ship from the heavy maritime road. All 16 crew members on board were evacuated and the ship was left drifting before the fire is fully extinguished. The local authorities are monitoring the general cargo ship Everton and heading the salvage operations. There are no injured people during the accident and no pollution of the water.

Crude carrier Kyeema Spirit ran aground in Estonia

   The crude oil tanker Kyeema Spirit ran aground on 8 nautical miles off Tallinn, Estonia with pilot on board. The vessel was not able to refloat by its own power and was waiting the salvage operations to be prepared and started. All the crew is on board of the ship, as Kyeema Spirit is hit by large waves with height of 2.30 m and strong winds with speed of 24 m/s. The crude oil tanker has hole in the double hull and leaked large amount of ballast water, as till now there is no pollution in the area. According to a preliminary information, the vessel was not steering correctly the course, as the pilot was not aware for the shallow near Estonian island Ulfso. However, the local authorities told that they warned the officers on board of Kyeema Spirit several times for approaching the rocky shallow. The salvage operations will not be performed before the divers inspect the hull and ensure about the strength of the tanks plates.

The fishing ship Horiei Maru sank after collision with Nikkei Tiger

   The fishing ship Horiei Maru sank after collision with the bulk carrier Nikkei Tiger on 320 nautical miles off Honshu island. The accident happened far away from the shore in Pacific ocean after immediate change of the course of the fishing ship. On board of the fishing ship Horiei Maru there were 22 crew members and only 9 of them were rescued, as 13 others are missing in the cold water of the ocean. The bulk carrier Nikkei Tiger did not suffered any sufficient damages and was able to assist for search and rescue operations of the fishermen. The bulk carrier was proceeded to Eeat-North East direction, with course to North America, when on the radar appeared small fishing ship. The duty officer took safety maneuver to ensure large distance between the two ships, but the fishing vessel suddenly changed its course in front of the bow of the quite larger cargo ship.

Cargo ship West sank in Okhotsk sea

   The cargo ship West sank in Okhotsk sea, after water ingress from the engine room. The vessel was operating with cargo on board, when the engine officers reported hard water ingress into the engine room and sent distress signal to the port authorities and coast guard. The crew abandoned the cargo ship Vest to a life raft wand was saved from the nearby vessel. All the 8 crew members were in good condition and had no injuries. The bad weather and technical malfunction are the main assumptions of the local authorities investigations. The ship was in good condition according to the shipowner and passed all the surveys, before the accident.

Pirates hijacked chemical tanker Bintang and robbed the crew

   The chemical tanker MT Bintang was hijacked and robbed by pirates near Tanjung Piai, Malaysia. The ship was operating on route to Singapore, when armed men boarded the ship with fast wooden boat. They attacked the unarmed ship and were able to hijack it for more than two hours. The pirates robbed everything, which was expensive according to their opinion. They took all the values, technologies and money from the crew before leaving the ship into their fast wooden boat and head to Malaysia. The robberies in the route were quite frequent last years as three more ships were attacked and robbed in the same way. The crew on board of the chemical tanker MT Bintang is in good health and had no injuries during the pirates attack.

Martha Bruhns fishing ship ran aground in Germany

   The fishing ship Martha Bruhns ran aground off Sylt island in Germany. The accident happened, after the ship broke its propeller, which raveled in the nets. The crew of the fishing ship tried to drop anchor, but the current and the winds were too strong and the anchor dragged. The ship Martha Bruhns headed to the surf zone of the Sylt island and sank aground in the sand banks of the shallows. At the scene of the accident were sent two rescue boats and one fishing ship, which was operating in the vicinity. The strong and heavy salvage operation was successful and the vessel was towed from the danger zone and later escorted to the port of Hornum. The fishing ship Martha Bruhns was berthed in the port and will be repaired, as the damage in the propulsion system was sufficient and will not be able to continue operations.

Cargo ship Dong He caught fire in East China Sea

   The sand carrier Dong He caught fire in the cargo hold on 75 nautical miles off Sasebo, Japan in East China Sea. The ship was on route from the Japanese port Nagoya to the Chinese port Haimen, when the the technical malfunction caused fire in the cargo hold. The crew tried to extinguish the fire, but without any success. After the fire started growing the duty officers sent a distress signal to the coast guard station. The 12 crew members on board were evacuated from the Patrol boat. The Japanese coast guard engaged 3 patrol boats from its fleet to start the salvage operations and firefighting. The coast guard station is leading the salvage operations of the sand carrier Dong He, but still the tugs have no control over the fire on board. The local authorities reported that all the crew members are in good condition and there are no serious injured people during the accident. There is no danger for the sinking of the vessel according to the current condition…

Kemal Kuru ran aground in Dardanelles

   The general cargo ship Kemal Kuru, ran aground in Dardanelles on 0.4 nautical miles off Cape Cankaya, Turkey. The accident happened during voyage from Sevastopol to Porto Marghera, carrying steep products on board. The navigation error of the duty officer and misunderstood situation of maneuvering caused the grounding of the Turkish cargo ship. The Vessel Traffic Center sent rescue boats at the scene of the accident, but the cargo ship Kemal Kuru was able to refloat at own power a few hours later. The local authorities started investigation of the accident and released the ship to continue the voyage. There are no injured people among the 14 crew members on board and no leakage and water pollution during the accident. The survey showed that the hull of the vessel have no sufficient damages from the grounding and the ship can continue operations.

General Cargo ship Lona ran aground in Sweden

   The general cargo ship Lona hit a mud bank and ran aground in Tor Harbour, Sweden. The vessel was operating under ballast from Sweden to Denmark, when during a maneuvering to leave the Tor Harbour was pushed by strong winds, which took the vessel into shallow place. The bottom of the shallow area was mud, so it caused no serious damages of the hull and with the support of harbor tug the general cargo ship Lona was refloated. The port authorities requested inspection of the vessel and ensured that its stability and strength of the hull allow continue off the voyage. Now the general cargo ship continued its voyage to Randers, Denmark.

Ferry Basto IV got engine failure and calceled recent voyages

   The ferry Basto IV got engine failure and discarded all the voyages planned for today. The ship had technical malfunction in the engine, which caused the interruption of the service. The ferry is operating on regular routes between Moss and Horten in Norway crossing Oslofjord four time per day. The ship got technical problems, when preparing to leave the port of Horten, without any passengers on board and before starting the voyage. The ferry Basto IV is quite old ship, built in 1986, but regularly maintained and in very good condition, which ensures safety operations in North Sea.
