Today was held the naming ceremony to one of the largest container ships of the world – Hamburg Express. The cargo vessel has capacity for 13,169 TEU and will be operated by the German company Hapag Lloyd. The vessel was built by the shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries in their shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The container ship is really created according to the latest standards, using the most modern equipment and technology inside. Hamburg Express has overall length of 366.00 m, moulded beam of 48.00 m, height of 66.00 m and maximum draft of 15.50 m. The deadweight of the container ship is 127,170 DWT, the gross tonnage is 142,295 GRT and the net tonnage is 60,481 NT. The container ship has large size and large cargo capacity, which makes the ship more profitable and more flexible in operations. Hamburg Express has total capacity for 13,169 TEU with 800 reefer plugs, giving to the ship ability to carry foods and perishable products. The container ship is really modern, large and environmental with increased strength and powerful engineering.
The vessel Hamburg Express (IMO: 9461051) is really strong and powerful ship, which has increased speed and economy engine. The builders installed the most modern equipment and the most modern technologies into the engineering and propulsion system. On board of the container ship Hamburg Express is installed 11-cylinder diesel engine MAN B&W 11K98ME7, which can total output power of 70,330 hp. The into the engine is used new-generation technology for electronic control to reduce emissions. Such high power allows the vessel to reach maximum speed of 23.6 knots, while the projected service speed is about 20.0 knots. Also the builders installed four auxiliary diesel generators into the container ship Hamburg Express with total output power of 18,370 hp, as well as shaft generators with power of 6,034 hp. The new technology on board provides eco-friendly electricity at sea, low fuel consumption and powerful operations. Good prove for the ecology of the engineering on board is the range of the ship, which is 30,400 nautical miles or more than 1.5 times around the Equator. Definitely the vessel is powerful, environmental and profitable, created following the latest technology developments and innovations.
The container ship was christened on official ceremony by Cornelia Behrendt, the wife of the Chairman of the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd. The vessel Hamburg Express is the flagman of the company’s fleet, which will replace one of the older vessels making regular routes on Loop 4 of the G6 Alliance. Together with this container ship, the company expects the delivery of seven new vessels, which are part of big renovation of the fleet. Now Hapag Lloyd is consisted of 147 container vessels with total capacity of more than 674,000 TEU.
