Cargo ship and high speed ferry collided in Greek port

Highspeed 5   The ferry Highspeed 5 was hit by the cargo ship St. Helena in the port of Mykonos in Greece. The cargo vessel got engine failure into the Greek port. Due to the flow inside the ship started drifting to the pier and hit the high speed ferry, which was moored there. Because of the collision the ferry Highspeed 5 got small cleft below the waterline and damages in the drivetrain. The ship got sufficient damages and should pass through inspection and repair. The voyage of the ferry Highspeed 5 from Mykonos to Tinos-Syros was canceled and all the 120 passengers were transfered to another ferry. The local authorities are investigating the accident.

   The ferry Highspeed 5 (IMO: 9329095) was built in 2005 by Austal Ships in their yard in Fremantle, Australia. The vessel has length of 85.00 meters, beam of 21.00 meters and draft of 3.00 meters. The deadweight of the fast ferry is 4,913 DWT and the gross tonnage is 470 GRT. The ship is operating under the flag of Greece and managed by the company Hellenic Seaways, making voyages among the Greek islands.
