The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) elected new Chairman on 28th May 2012 during the Annual General Meeting in Port Douglas, Queensland. The new Director of the international trade association for shipowners is Mr Masamichi Morooka (Japan). He replaces the ex-chairman Spyros M Polemis (Greece), who decided to release the position after 6 years in the office of ICS. The ex-chairman will continue to assist to the new Director of ICS and will be his deputy in next few months, until Mr Masamichi Morooka fully gets the all responsibility and functions of his position.
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is representing the maritime shipowners and traders worldwide and is consisted of members from 36 countries, managing more than 80% from the world fleet. Leading the industry of maritime transport, Mr Morooka will be the main representative of the shipping industry in the world and will work together with international regulators – International Labour Organization (ILO) and International Maritime Organization (IMO).
“I am very happy and highly glade to have been elected by the International Chamber of Shipping member national shipowners’ associations. To be a Chairman of this association is a big responsibility to me and my primary task will be to ensure that ICS will continue to represent the considered views of the entire industry.”, told Mr Morooka in his first statement as Chairman of ICS.
