Freighter with 100 immigrants ran agrount in Puerto Rico

mv Jireh   The The cargo ship Jireh ran aground in Puerto Rico after strucking a reef. The ship was on route to St Martin with 100 immigrants, when a navigation error caused damage of the hull and the ship ran aground on the Mona Island. Large part of the passengers and the crew left the vessel and stayed on the island waiting for Coast Guard to come to the scene of the accident. The ship has serious damages into the hull, but no injuries and pollution was reported.

   The distress signal was sent from the cargo ship was sent at 0650 on Thursday and the Coast Guard immidiately sent helicopter to the scene. The federal and state agencies were also notified for the accident and for the immigrants. All the local authorities are working together doe transfer of the passengers and crew on board to the closest port.
