NCC Najem is the newest chemical tanker, which was built in the South Korean shipyard of SHINAsb (ex SLS). The vessel is property of the South Arabian company National Chemical Carriers Ltd, part of the National Shipping Company BAHRI. The ship was completed in August 2012 and constructed according to the latest standards of IMO and MARPOL. The vessel is part from the large order, which National Chemical Carriers Ltd signed with the South Korean shipyard. The chemical tanker is really modern, large and highly environmental. The overall length of the ship NCC Najem is 183.00 m, the beam is 32.25 m and the depth is 18.90 m. The chemical tanker has maximum summer draft of 12.15 m, when fully loaded with cargo and free board of 6.75 m. Such dimensions are really large, when talking about chemical tankers, but the shipbuilders introduced their most modern technologies inside and make the vessel really safety. The deadweight of NCC Najem is 45,499 DWT, the gross tonnage is 29,168 GRT and the net tonnage is 11,678 NT. The cargo ship has improved size and cargo capacity, which definitely makes the vessel more profitable for the shipowner. The ship is classified as tanker for Chemicals & Oil Products, with class notation 1A1 CSR Tanker for Chemicals and Oil Products ESP SPM E0 NAUT-OC VCS-2 HL(1.55) BIS ETC TMON. All the cargo tanks have epoxy coating, which allows carrying of large variety of chemical inside and makes the vessel more flexible for operations.
The design of the ship is really strong and the hull has double plates. The engineering and propulsion system are also designed according to the most modern innovations to provide high safety and reliability. The main engine of the chemical tanker NCC Najem (IMO: 9459022) is MAN B&W 6S50MC Mk. VI, which has total output power of 12,870 hp at 130 rpm. The ship is driven by mono-block propeller, which has improved shape and design for low water turbulence. The modern propeller type and engine power are enough for the ship to reach service speed of 14.0 knots, while the maximum speed is over 15.0 knots. NCC Najem has also three diesel generators MAN B&W 7L23/30H, each with power of 1500 hp at 900 rpm. On board there is also installed emergency diesel generator Cummins 6CTA-8.3-D(M). The shipbuilders from SHINAsb made a lot of innovations in the engineering of the vessel, installing computer controlled fuel-injection system, which increases the combustion and decreases the CO2 emissions. The propulsion system also is re-designed to have low friction and power loses. Definitely, NCC Najem is designed to be one of the most modern and modern powerful ships of the world.
