MS Expedition ran aground in Norway

   The cruise ship MS Expedition, which has 100 passengers and 57 crew members on board ran aground near Isispynten, Norway. The ship got water ingress and serious damages of the hull, but the accurate and fast salvage operations saved it from sinking. The intentions of the captain was to head the ship to Alesung, but when the hole was found and the inspection was help, the ship was reported as unavailable for operations. The vessel Expedition was tugged to Longyearbyen in the Advents Fjord, where was anchored for further maintenance and inspections. There is no pollution and injured people during the accident, but the construction of the hull is damaged and the ship will need of repair and even might be dry docked. The reason for the accident is still unknown, but usually cruise ship Expedition is operating in coastal water and most probably this was the reason for hitting the rocky shallow.

The chemical tanker Stolt Valor will be scrapped

   The chemical tanker Stolt Valor, which caught fire in March 2012 and reported total loss, will be scrapped. The explosion and fire on board of the ship happened on 45 miles off the coast of Qatar and caused serious damages of the cargo tanks, hull and engineering on board. The fire was extinguished, but the ship was in terrible condition. The company owner of the vessel Stolt Nielsen together with the operator Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company announced that the repair costs of the chemical tanker will be much higher than its actual price, so the best option in front of them is to scrap the vessel. The chemical tanker was tugged to the port of Asry, where was inspected by experts of the company owner and shipyard, who concerned about the full repair of the ship.

Kim Jacob oil tanker

   The crude oil tanker Kim Jacob is one of the largest ships in the fleet of Ernst Jacob Group. The vessel has profitable dimensions, large cargo capacity, but definitely is hard to be compared with the largest crude carriers of the world. General cargo ship ran agound in Greece

   The general cargo ship Stella, which is operating under the flag of Ukraine ran aground Andros island, Greece. The ship hit rocks of a shallow, due to navigation error and oversight of the duty officer to the real ship's position. Too much reliance on navigational equipment often causes such accidents and even can cause ship's sinking. The general cargo ship Stella got got some damages of the hull, but there is no accurate information before the salvage operations complete. On the scene of the accidents was sent to Coast Guard patrol boat, which will try to tug the vessel and refloat it. The general cargo ship Stella was operating under ballast from Chalkis to Romania, where has chartered cargo, but most probably will have serious delay. After refloating of the vessel, the general cargo ship will be towed to the closest port for inspection and repair. There is no pollution and injured people during the accident.

Samsung Heavy Industries launched Ever Lambent

   Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the large container ship Ever Lambent to Evergreen Marine Coorperation. The vessel was christened by chairman Chang Yung-fa and has maximum capacity for 9,200 TEU. Definitely this is the first and largest container vessel of the company, which operates mostly in Asia. The vessel Ever Lambent is built according to the best practices of the shipyard and Greenship design concepts, as the builders integrated their newest developments inside. The container ship has electronically-controlled fuel injection, which will highly decrease the fuel consumption and CO2 emission. Also the energy-efficient navigational capability and minimal ballast water requirement are the basic features, which the ship has integrated inside. The vessel has cutting-edge hull optimization, which highly decreases the water resistance and increases the power of the main engine.

Fire on board of chemical tanker Bunga Alpinia

   The chemical/palm oil tanker Bunga Alpinia caught fire, while berthed alongside at Petronas Chemicals Methanol Sdn Bhd terminal in Labuan, Malaysia. The fire started, during the cargo operations this morning (on 26th July 2012) and caused missing of 5 crew members and serious injured of 1 person. Bunga Alpinia chemical tanker was operating in East Africa and arrived to discharge cargo in Malaysia, when fire on board started from technical breakdown. On board of the ship there were 29 crew members - 23 Malaysians and 6 Filipinos. The port authorities send immediately tugs for fire fighting, but still there is no details if the fire is extinguished. The ship is loaded with methanol, as it is highly explodable cargo. The local authorities are investigating the reasons for the accident and still search for the missing 5 crew members.

Dangerous cargo exploded on Maersk Kinloss

   Dangerous cargo had been exploded on board of the container ship Maersk Kinloss in Iliychevsk, Ukraine. During the discharge of the cargo, the dock workers noticed that several containers are seriously damaged, due to explosion on board. The container, which caused explosion was loaded with the dangerous cargo of aluminum phosphide. The fire caused damage of the container and cargo inside and also serious damaged the nearby containers. On board of the container ship Maersk Kinloss there were total 2082 containers, 683 of which were discharged in the port of Iliychevsk. The dock workers found 3 TEU with the cargoes aluminium phosphide and oxidizer, which were stowed in the cargo hold. Such stowage is violating the safety regulations and might cause serious accident with the vessel (same as thos of MSC Flaminia). Octopus yacht

   The yacht Octopus is one of the largest and most expensive yachts of the world, built ever. The vessel was built in 2003 in the yard of Lurssen Yachts. The owner of the super-yacht is Paul Allen, who is the co-founder of Microsoft and one of the richest men in the world. The super-yacht Octopus is really large and impressive in design and architecture. The overall length of the yacht is 126.20 m, the beam is 21.00 m and the maximum draft is 5.66 m. The deadweight of Octopus super-yacht is 1,680 DWT and the gross tonnage is 9,932 GRT. The large size of the yacht is great prove of its majesty, but also the hull has increased strength and the interior has comfortability of high class cruise. The yacht has active and static stabilizers, which decrease the rolling, during heavy sea. On board of yacht Octopus is installed the most modern equipment for safety, navigation and stabilization.

MSC Flaminia fire is under control

   The fire on board of the container ship MSC Flaminia is under control and the ship is on 260 nautical miles off European Coast. The tug boat Anglian Sovereign is monitoring the temperature on board of the trans-ocean container ship with special laser technology. The fire is extinguished but the dense smoke is still getting out of the cargo holds of the ship. The salvage team is not able to get control of the bridge and engine room of MSC Flaminia, but after the smoke stops, they will board the ship and get control of it. The three tugs are monitoring any part of the ship and if the temperature increase or the fire start in any place, they will continue fire fighting, but now there is no rudiments of acting fire on MSC Flaminia.

Cargo ship Dae San in distress after water ingress

   The North Korean general cargo ship Dae San sent distress signal for water ingress in Arabian sea. The accident happened a few nautical miles off Oman coast on route to Dubai. The vessel was operating with cargo to and after the distress signal there is no communications and information about the ship. The weather conditions in the vicinity are good, there is slight wind, but no storm or anything. Most probably the ship god water ingress in the engine room, because of technical problems. The rescue boats were sent to the scene of the accident, but there is no information for the vessel. The company Daesan Shipping is not commenting the information, as they also have no contact with the vessel.
