Chemical Tanker ran aground in Rhine river

Synthese-3 tanker   The chemical tanker Synthese-3, carrying sulphur acid, ran aground in Rhine river, near the city Oberwesel. The ship hit a mud bank during operation with 1300 tons of the dangerous chemical cargo, due to maneuvering operations. The navigation officer, changed the course to more appropriate position, but did not calculated the stream and the ship hit a mud bank, which was not corrected on the ship’s chart. The chemical tanker Synthese-3 ran aground and was not able to refloat by itself. The distress signal was sent to the port authorities and coast guard. There is no damage of the hull, no injured crew members and no leak of sulphur acid in the river. The official announcement of the port authorities, tells that there is no danger of major disaster. The tanker will be refloated soon, but before the salvage operations need of lightering of the vessel.

   The chemical tanker Synthese-3 has length of 98.00 meters, beam of 10.00 meters and maximum summer draft of 2.20 meters. The ship is operating under the flag of Netherlands.
