ST Wind cargo ship got engine failure in Japan Sea

   The general cargo ship ST Wind, which is operating under Russian flag, is disabled with engine failure on 50 nautical miles off Olga Port in Russia. The general cargo ship was on route from Tokyo to Vanino port, when a technical malfunction in some of the aggregates caused shortage and broke the main engine. This caused the disability of the cargo ship ST Wind and drifting without control towards coastline. There is no direct danger for the ship, accoridng to the coast guard station, as the harbor tug will arrive at the scene of the accident in a few hours. The ship will be towed to Olga port, where will be repaired and inspected.

Bulk carrier Double Progress collided with anchored container ship in Malaysia

   The bulk carrier Double Progress collided with the anchored container ship E.R. Turku off Port Klang, Malaysia. The Panamax dry bulk carrier, which was loaded with 30,000 tones of coal, was driven by pilot and master for entering into harbor, when the negligence of the situation caused collision with the anchored ship. The current and the wind in the position of the accident were middle, as the weather conditions were good for operations. The collision was minor and both ships had no sufficient damages into their hulls, but the local authorities investigated the accident and fined the guilty master of bulk carrier Double Progress. The operations in the region are not disturbed by the collision and the maritime transport is normalized.

Explosion in beached tanker Union Brave killed 5 dock workers

   The beached tanker Union Brave got explosion and fire in the Alang-Sosiya Ship Recycling Yard, killing 5 dock workers. The accident happened during cutting of compartment in the rear part of the vessel, near the pump room. The fire works caused flaming of the fuel fumes and explosion in the compartment. Total 7 people were in the vicinity an 5 of them were killed, while 2 others were seriously injured. The tanker was sold for scrap to Ship Breaking Co, which ordered recycling in the Alang-Sosiya Ship Recycling Yard on plot 82. The local authorities and the yard started investigation of the accident and checked the safety level in the plot. The fuel tanks were not ventilated enough and the fuel fumes flamed by the welders used.

Explosion on board of the bulk carrier Sea Moon off Bermuda

   The bulk carrier Sea Moon got explosion and fire in the cargo hold on 140 nautical miles off Bermuda. The vessel was loaded with coal and was operated on route from New Orleans, USA to Karachi, Pakistan. The explosion thrown crew members overboard, but later the seaman was rescued. After the accident the bulk carrier Sea Moon changed course to Bermuda and anchored there for survey and inspection. Also the injured crew member was taken to the hospital for treatment. The reasons for the accident are still under investigation, but most probably the high temperature caused explosion of gases in the cargo hold. The ship will be surveyed and fully inspected before continue the voyage to Pakistan.

General cargo ship Hao Han on fire in Japan

   Hao Han ship caught fire in Osaka Bay on 7 nautical miles off Izumiotsu City, Japan. The vessel was on route from Japan to China, loaded with 1000 tones of scrap, when a fire started in the engine room. The crew was not able to get control of the fire and requested assistance from from coast guard station. All the crew from the cargo vessel Hao Han were rescued from the ship, without any serious injuries. Two tugs from the local coast guard station are engaged with firefighting and according to the latest news the fire is under control and must be fully extinguished in a few hours. The local authorities started investigation over the accident, but most probably it was caused by technical malfunction in the engine.

Crude carrier Hellespont Trooper was sold in Greece

   The large crude carrier Hellespont Trooper was sold to new Greek owners at the price of 12,000,000 USD. The contract was signed a few days ago and the delivery of the ship will be done till the end of the year. The ship was operated and owned by the German company Hellespont Hammonia, but because of the decreased numbers of contracts the company was forced to sell the ship. The new owners were not announced officially, as the ship will be delivered in the next months. The large crude carrier Hellespont Trooper was built in the shipyard of Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries in 1996 and has really good engineering, powerful propulsion system and large cargo spaces. The ship was in good condition during the sale and the hull had no damages.

Ferry sank after collision with the LPG tanker Norgas Cathinka

   The ferry Bahuga Jaya sank after collision with LPG tanker Norgas Cathinka in the Sunda Strait off Jakarta, Indonesia. The accident happened on 4 nautical miles off the Bakauheni Port, Lampung Selatan and on board of the passenger ship there were more than 200 passengers and 30 crew members. The local authorities reported that at least 8 people died in the water of Indonesia and 15 people are still missing. The accident happened after violating the Colreg rules of the both vessels, which turned to same position to avoid collision. The LPG tanker Norgas Cathinka is detained by the Indonesian coast guard, after the accident, before clearing of the situation. The local authorities and the coast guard organized search and rescue operations, engaging a helicopter and three rescue boats. The investigation of the accident is still in process and all the aspects of the collision will be reviewed by the authorities and police.

General cargo ship Everton caught fire in Mozambique Strait

   Technical malfunction in the cooling system of the generator, caused fire in the engine room of the general cargo ship Everton. The accident happened in Mozambique Strait during operations on route from Pemba to Mitsamudu. The crew was not able to get control of the fire with the ship's safety equipment and sent a distress signal to the coast guard. Three tugs from the local harbor arrived at the scene of the accident and started firefighting and towing operations, to take out the ship from the heavy maritime road. All 16 crew members on board were evacuated and the ship was left drifting before the fire is fully extinguished. The local authorities are monitoring the general cargo ship Everton and heading the salvage operations. There are no injured people during the accident and no pollution of the water.

Oil tanker Rainbow Quest was sold to Mercator Lines

   The crude oil tanker Rainbow Quest was sold to the Singapore company Mercator Lines at price of 11,500,000 USD. The cargo ship was previously owned by another Singapore company Anglo Eastern Shipmanagement, but due to financial crisis and fleet renew was forced to sell the vessel. The crude oil tanker Rainbow Quest is in good condition, without any damages and built according to the latest standards of IMO. The ship was operating on various routes all over the world, mostly in Europe and Asia, but also carried cargo in North and South America. The Singapore company Mercator Lines has plans to increase its fleet and capacity, because of the increased demand of crude oil in the country and the new contracts signed with government companies.

Crude carrier Kyeema Spirit ran aground in Estonia

   The crude oil tanker Kyeema Spirit ran aground on 8 nautical miles off Tallinn, Estonia with pilot on board. The vessel was not able to refloat by its own power and was waiting the salvage operations to be prepared and started. All the crew is on board of the ship, as Kyeema Spirit is hit by large waves with height of 2.30 m and strong winds with speed of 24 m/s. The crude oil tanker has hole in the double hull and leaked large amount of ballast water, as till now there is no pollution in the area. According to a preliminary information, the vessel was not steering correctly the course, as the pilot was not aware for the shallow near Estonian island Ulfso. However, the local authorities told that they warned the officers on board of Kyeema Spirit several times for approaching the rocky shallow. The salvage operations will not be performed before the divers inspect the hull and ensure about the strength of the tanks plates.
