Fire on board of container ship Jupiter off San Diego

Fire started on board of the container ship Jupiter 30 nautical miles off San Diego, USA. The cargo ship was operating on route to Mazatlan, Mexico, when a fire started in the engine room. The crew on board started firefighting with all the facilities on board. During the accident one of the crew members was seriously burned and needed medical intervention. The fire was extinguished with the ship's firefighting equipment, but the condition of the seamen got worse. The officers sent a distress signal and requested assistance from the coast guard. A helicopter arrived at the scene of the accident and carried the seaman to the hospital for further treatment. The container ship reported that there are no other injured people on board during fire extinguishing and continued the voyage to Mexico with 2,400 TEU on board.

NCC Najem

NCC Najem is the newest chemical tanker, which was built in the South Korean shipyard of SHINAsb (ex SLS). The vessel is property of the South Arabian company National Chemical Carriers Ltd, part of the National Shipping Company BAHRI. The ship was completed in August 2012 and constructed according to the latest standards of IMO and MARPOL. The vessel is part from the large order, which National Chemical Carriers Ltd signed with the South Korean shipyard. The chemical tanker is really modern, large and highly environmental. The overall length of the ship NCC Najem is 183.00 m, the beam is 32.25 m and the depth is 18.90 m. The chemical tanker has maximum summer draft of 12.15 m, when fully loaded with cargo and free board of 6.75 m. Such dimensions are really large, when talking about chemical tankers, but the shipbuilders introduced their most modern technologies inside and make the vessel really safety. BAHRI launched the chemical tanker NCC Najem

The chemical tanker NCC Najem entered into the fleet of BAHRI, which is the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia. The new chemical tanker is brand new, built in the shipyard of SHINAsb (ex SLS) in South Korea with large size and capacity. The chemical tanker was part from contract for 155 million USD, signed for building of five chemical tankers in South Korean shipyard. The vessels will be delivered later in 2012 and 2013 and will form one of the largest chemical tankers fleets of the world. The company BAHRI is leader Saudi Arabia and Asia in chemical carrying and definitely is planning to grow and increase its market stake in the years of decrease of maritime transport. Part of its order is also 75,000 DWT chemical tanker, which will be built in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co Ltd, which will be largest vessel with such classification in the world.

Pacific Orca was launched

Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the Pacific Orca, which is the world's largest windfarm installation vessel. The ship is really large with length of 161.00 m, beam of 49.00 m and depth of 10.40 m. The windfarm installation vessel is owned by Swire Pacific Offshore and will provide service for the Danish DONG Energy, as the vessel can carry and install twelve large Wind Turbine Generators, each with capacity of 3.6 MW. Pacific Orca was operate and install WTGs and wind foundations at depth of 60.00 m. The improved design and equipment on board allow safety operations and carrying of heavy wind foundation. The this has six legs, which allow the ship to lift up to 17.00 m above the ocean surface. This makes the ship less affected by the weather conditions and waves.

THH Shipping will scrap four coasters

The Danish company THH Shipping will scrap four of its coasters, as the company was unable to find buyers for the old vessels. The four ships are Anna Stevns, Nural Stevns, Buse Stevns and Oliver Stevns. The coasters are sister-ships with length of 79.00 m, beam of 13.20 m and draft of 5.20 m. The ship were operating for the company THH Shipping for several years, but the heavy crisis, which hurt the maritime transport made the company to take such radical measures to exit from the debt crisis. The four ships are now towed to Frederikshavn, Denmark, where will be scrapped at the shipyard Orlas Product Business. The CEO of THH Shipping explained that theere is no prospect the situation to get better, so the company tried to sell the ships to foreign investor, but such was not found.

Odfjell ordered four 46,000 DWT chemical tankers

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won a profitable contract from the Norwegian company Odfjell for building of for chemical tankers with deadweight of 46,000 DWT. The ships will be constructed according to the latest marine engineering standards and will have 22 coated cargo tanks, available to carry large variety of cargoes. The ships is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2014. The vessel will be designed and built with new and modern engineering, low fuel consumption and latest environmental requirements. The chemical tankers will be part from the renovation of the fleet of the Norwegian company. Odfjell plans to replace the old chemical tankers, which service is quite more expensive and operate with lower profit. The old chemical tankers most probably will be sold and will continue operations for other chemical tanker operator.

Ro-Ro Cargo ship Bayang sank in Philippines

The cargo ship Bayang partially sank after collision with anchored barge Asian Roger in Manila Bay, Philippines. The Ro-Ro cargo ship was anchored, when due to the strong current and heavy sea dragged the anchor and collided with the barge. The ship got large hole into the portside of the hull with size of about 0.50 m. The cargo ship Bayang got water ingress and submerged, as the hull grounded into the bottom and the vessel partially sank. There is no information about injured people and pollution, but the ship has large capacity of IFO on board, which might spill into the bay. The shipowner and port authorities got all the measures to prevent leakage and water pollution in the region. The local authorities started investigation of the accident and most probably the owned and operator of the ship will be fined for the collision and the sinking.

Ammonia leakage from LPG Carrier Al Marona

Leakage and water pollution was reported from New Mangalore port authorities. The LPG Carrier Al Marona was discharging ammonia into the port, when a strong leakage started from broken pipe. Four people are injured - two crew members and dock workers during the accident. The injured people were transport to the local hospital for medical intervention. The LPG Carrier Al Marona had pipe damage and one of the duty deck officer left one of the valves closed during the offloading operations. The pressure has become harder and broke the pipe. The local port authorities started investigation of the accident and fined seriously the master and shipowner of the LPG carrier - Qatar Shipping. The situation requested evacuation of the ship and the dock from civil and dock workers. The pollution as restricted from the local authorities and the process of cleaning started immediately.

ANL Warringa container ship

The container ship ANL Warringa is impressive and modern vessel, which is part of the fleet and operated by the maritime transport company Rickmers Shipmanagement Singapore. The ship was built in 2007 by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group in their shipyard in Dalian, China. The ship is meeting all the requirements and standards of IMO for stability, safety and environmental operations. The overall length of the container ship is 260.00 m, while the registered length between perpendiculars is 244.50 m. The beam of the cargo ship is 32.25 m, the depth is 19.30 m and the maximum draft is 12.60 m. ANL Warringa is optimized and really large vessel, which has improved capacity and strong engineering. The summer deadweight of the ship is 50,629 DWT, the gross tonnage is 39,906 GRT and the net tonnage is 24,504 NT.
