Germanischer Lloyd stopped operations in Iran

Germanischer Lloyd will stop its operations in Iran, which will seriously hurt the maritime transport in the region and the largest Iranian maritime companies. The high social and US government pressure over the classification organization caused such radical action of Germanischer Lloyd. Earlier this week from the American Government announced that if Germanischer Lloyd do not stop their work in Iran, will have problems with the US Laws. The analyzers claim that the organization was pressed to take such decision, mostly because of the business reasons. Each year the US Government provide fat contracts to the classification organization.

Superyacht ran aground in Greece

The superyacht Tamara RD, which is one of the most luxury and most expensive yachts for charter in Greece ran aground with 10 passengers on board. The yacht started cruise with 10 passengers on board and passed through Lefkada channel, Greece, when due to navigation mistake hit shallow. There were no visible damages over the hull of the yacht and no injured people from the guests and crew on board. With the power of the engines and tugged by two fishing vessels, the superyacht Tamara RD was refloated and headed to Lefkada anchor area. It was highly important the yacht to pass survey, as the shores of Ionian sea are consisted of many rocks, which may highly damage the hull. Fortunately, there were no damages the passengers continued their cruise on board.

Nefterudovoz-52M ship ran agound in river Volga

The bulk carrier Nefterudovoz-52M, which was loaded with 2,761 tons of steel, ran aground in river Volga. The ship was headed to Astrakhan from Rostov-on-Don, fully loaded with cargo. The cargo ship has encountered on a mud bank and the the bow part hit the bottom, but the other part of the hull stayed on water. There were no damages over the hull of the ship, so after being tugged back, the ship continue the voyage to Astrakhan. The reason for the accident most probably was human mistake, as the ship drifted a little for the navigation route and the bow hit a mud bank of the river.

Old wooden ship with 27 people on board sank in Indonesia

The ship Putri Ayu sank in Maluku Province, Indonesia. The ship is is quite old, with wooden hull and purpose for carrying passengers and cargoes between the provinces of Indonesia. The ship left Slamet Riyadi, loaded with building materials and 22 passengers and 5 crew members on board. The ship's master negligeed the warning for heavy sea, strong wind and high waves. Three hours after leaving the port of Slamet Riyadi, the ship was hit by several waves, some of which were over 5 meters in hight, which damaged the hull and flooded the holds and engine rooms. The water in the engine room caused blackout and the drifting vessel was devoted to the sea power. Only for a few minutes the ship's hull was seriously damaged the ship sank, leaving all the passengers, crew and cargo into the water. Australia created the largest Marine Reserve in continental waters

The Australian Government announced that there are plans to create the largest Marine Reserve, which will cover about 3 million square kilometers. The area is about 30% from the Australian waters and will have strong restrictions for fishing, oil and gas extraction. The restrictions will include the cargo carrying in the areas, but will not disable at all. The Australian government started large and expensive environmental policy, which has main purpose to decrease the pollution of the sensitive eco-system in the area of the Great Barrier Reef.

River passenger ship inflamed in Rhine River

The river passenger ship Gerard Schmitter inflamed during voyage on the Rhine River. The accident happened near Krefeld, Germany when the ship had 154 passengers and 34 crew members on board. The passenger ship Gerard Schmitter was menuvering for berthing at Krefeld, when started a fire in the engine room, caused from malfunction in electrical system. Strong acid smoke gassed the ship and the vicinity, making all people on board to evacuate. The fire brigade from the shore, arrived at the scene of the accident and extinguished the fire. Two people have slight injuries and were taken to the hospital.

New anti-piracy technology on board of cargo ships

A range of new and more modern anti-piracy systems will be launched. Applied Satellite Engineering (ASE) introduced the new, highly improved version of their "citadel" safe room, which is available for cargo ships with remote polling technology. The usage of Iridium network, allows for the crew to send the coordinates of the ship to the rescue center and to the ship's office. Also even if the communications are disabled by the pirates, the system will provide through satellite the coordinates of the ship to the office, who can transfer them to the rescue forces.

Singapore Car Carrier lost power 2 miles off Kea island in Greece

The car carrier City of Mumbai got engine blackout and full engine failure on 2.2 nautical miles off the Kea island, near Piraeus, Greece. The cargo ship was headed to Sagunto, when major problem in the engine system appeared and the ship started drifting close to the Greek shores. The distress signal was sent to the port authority, and from the coast guard planned to send tug to the accident position. Meanwhile the engineers on board of the car carrier City of Mumbai fixed the problem and the rescue operation was canceled. However, the ship was anchored in the port Lavrion for checking the problem with the engine. After completely solving the problem with the engine of the car carrier, the ship left the anchorage and resumed voyages.

Capesize Bulk Carrier was sold for scrap

The cargo ship Bet Scouter (IMO: 9050010) operating under the flag of Isle of Man, was sold for scrap at price of 12,100,000 USD. The vessel was property of Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp, and operated as the part of the company's fleet for 17 years. The cargo ship Bet Scouter was built in 1995 in the shipyard of Santierul Naval Constanta in Romania. The Capesize drybulk vessel has overall length of 296.00 meters, beam of 46.00 meters and maximum draft of 10.20 meters. The cargo ship Bet Scouter has deadweight of 172,173 DWT and gross tonnage of 90,312 GRT. The ship has 9 holds and large cargo capacity, but in the years of financial crisis the company Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp decided to sell it, instead of bankruptcy.

Cargo ship rescued 7 seamen from life raft

Seven people were rescued from a life craft by the wood chip carrier Forestal Diamante. On board of the cargo vessel received the distress signal from the sinking ship Golden Eagle and headed to the accident area. The cargo ship Forestal Diamante reached the position, which was on about 300 miles North-West of Johnston Atoll, Hawaii. Navigating to the activated EPIRB system, the wood chip carrier found the life craft with seven people on board. After the successful rescue operation the wood chip carrier Forestal Diamante headed to the Johnston Atoll port in Hawaii, where the medical equips will care about the rescued people.
