Stolt Bobcat

   The chemical tanker Stolt Bobcat is one of the most modern and largest ships from the fleet of Stolt Nielsen. The vessel was built in 2009, as part from multi million project for renovation of the company's fleet. The chemical tanker has length of 155.00 meters, beam of 24.80 meters, depth of 13.35 meters and summer draft of 9.50 meters. The chemical tanker Stolt Bobcat has deadweight of 23,300 DWT and gross tonnage of 13,516 GRT. The cargo ship is really improved and very modern, with optimized cargo spaces and increased capacity. The net tonnage of the ship is 7,143 tons and the cargo capacity is 24,724 cubic meters. The vessel has really improved hull shape, designed according to the latest IMO requirements and standards. Stolt Bobcat has double hull and double sides, as between the cargo holds and the outside plates are situated the fuel tanks, ballast tanks and pipes for cargo system.

Chemical tanker made pollution after tank cleaning

   The chemical tanker Fjordstraum (ex Bow Bahia) made pollution, when washing tanks on route between Antwerp and Rotterdam. The market of the cargo ship was fined with 40,000 EUR for the incident and the ship was released to continue its voyage. The vessel Fjordstraum left Antwerp, when made a one day tank cleaning voyage in Atlantic ocean, before getting back in Rotterdam. Unfortunately the voyage was not enough long, and the crew was not ready with the tanks, so the ship discharged residues near the shores of Denmark. This was spotted by Belgian Coast Guard plane and the information was transfered to Dutch authorities. After arriving in the port of Rotterdam the ship was arrested and the master was fined for the caused water pollution. The chemical tanker was released and the cargo operations continued, after the fine was paid by the ship.

Container Ship ran aground in Chile

   The container ship Condor ran aground near Chile, while operating with cargo of 698 TEU on route to Punta Arenas. The cargo ship was underway in the canals of Chile, when due to navigation error hit a shallow and the ship ran aground. The ship has various damages of the hull, but not serious. The salvage operations were planed for today, but the ship should be discharged from a few containers and fuel, before towed back on water. There are no pollution and injured crew members during the accident, but the Chile Coast Guard will start investigation about it and most probably the master of container ship Condor will be fined.

Libyan Coast Guard fired Tunisian fishing vessel

   Libya fired Tunisian fishing vessel, cause the kill of one seaman and the injury of another one. The fire was caused, when the Tunisian fishing vessel entered into Libyan waters and the refusing to stop. During the night, a patrol of the Libyan Coast Guard detected unknown vessel operating in Libyan waters and after sending a helicopter it was understood that this is Tunisian fishing ship. The Coast Guard contacted the ship and asked to stop engines, when the fishing boat gone full ahead and tried to scape. The patrol ship send a few shots to the ship, and arrested the seamen and officer. After the shots one of the fishing seamen was killed and another one was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital in Tripoli.

Greek company sales two product tanker

   The Greek company NewLead Holdings Ltd announced the plans to sale two of its product tankers - Hiona and Hiotissa. The total price of the deal will be about 57.0 million USD, which will cover the debt of 18.1 million USD, which the company has. NewLead Holdings Ltd made an agreement with Piraeus Bank SA to released from all obligations and to make full restructure. The financial crisis and the debt crisis in Greece collapsed the cargo market and the maritime transport, so many companies are forced to sell their activities, such as NewLead Holdings Ltd. The deal is expected to finish in the third quarter of 2012 and will save the company from bankruptcy, in spite of the decreased fleet, which the company will have. Bulk Carrier ran aground near Tunisia

   The Capesize bulk carrier Flash ran aground in a mud bank near Galite Islands in Tunisia. The cargo vessel was operating on route from Baltimore to Taranto, carrying 126,000 tons of coal. The ship Flash got damage in the hull, as some of the ballast tanks are completely damaged, as the plate of the engine room is crackled too. During the accident there are no injuries and pollution, but however the coast guard is informed about the accident. The salvage operation will be started in the next hours, because some of the cargo and fuel should be discharged from the ship.

The ULCC TI Europe

   The ULCC (Ultra Large Cruise Carrier) TI Europe is one of the largest vessels of the world built ever. The oil tanker together with her sister-ships are forming the largest capacity vessels, as each of them can carry more than 3.2 millions of barrels crude oil. TI Europe is real giant of the seas, with impressive stability, increased strength of the hull and strong engineering. Only a couple of ports in the world can host such large vessel, so TI Europe is usually loaded in discharged on platforms and terminals 1-2 nautical miles off the port. The length of the ULCC TI Europe is 380.00 meters, the beam is 68.00 meters, the depth is 24.50 meters and the summer maximum draft is 13.40 meters. TI Europe is really built according to the latest requirements of IMO with double hull and double bottom, to prevent the sea from pollution in possible accident. Cargo ship and high speed ferry collided in Greek port

   The ferry Highspeed 5 was hit by the cargo ship St. Helena in the port of Mykonos in Greece. The cargo vessel got engine failure into the Greek port. Due to the flow inside the ship started drifting to the pier and hit the high speed ferry, which was moored there. Because of the collision the ferry Highspeed 5 got small cleft below the waterline and damages in the drivetrain. The ship got sufficient damages and should pass through inspection and repair. The voyage of the ferry Highspeed 5 from Mykonos to Tinos-Syros was canceled and all the 120 passengers were transfered to another ferry. The local authorities are investigating the accident.

Evacuation in the Gulf of Mexico, because of the hurricane Debi

   A strong storm and hurricane, called "Debi", will pass through the Gulf of Mexico. The heavy storm will hit with strongest power the region, which has a lot of oil platforms. Till that moment 13 platforms are fully evacuated, because of the coming hurricane. The volumes of the crude oil extraction in the region decreased with 7.8%, while the natural gas volumes decreased with 8.16%. The bitted experience, which the crude oil companies had in this region, with the sinking of BP platform, increased the requirements over their job and made the fines and restrictions higher.

LNG Lerici gas carrier

   The cargo ship LNG Lerici is gas carrier, which is really large and impressive vessel. The construction of the hull and the improved design are making this vessel strong, powerful and profitable. The ship was built in the Fincantieri shipyard in 1998 and operated by LNG Shipping S.p.A. The improvements integrated into the design, stability and safety on board are making the ship important for the maritime transport. LNG Lerici has length of 216.14 meters, beam of 33.90 meters, depth of 21.26 meters and draft of 8.20 meters. The total height of the ship is 54.00 meters and the air draft is 46.00 meters. The ship has large cargo capacity, as the deadweight is 35,761 tons, gross tonnage is 46,555 GRT and the net tonnage 13,966 tons. The ship has improved design, so the cargo capacity is 65,299 cubic meters, which is quite high value for the gas carrier with such size.
