Fire on Crown Princess cruise ship in Ionian sea

   The luxury cruise ship Crown Princess was caught on fire on 3 nautical miles Eastern of Antipaxos island. The fire started in one of the passenger cabins and was automatically extinguished by the fire fighting system. The accident happened in Ionian sea, during a cruise between the ports Corfu and Piraeus. The cruise ship Crown Princess suffered slight damages and after inspection of the Katakolo port authorities, Crown Princess continued the voyage to the final destination. The vessel was operating on cruise with 3325 passengers on board and none of them are injured. The reason for the fire was wrong usage of electrical tools in the cabin by one of the guests.

Explosion on MSC Flaminia in the mid Atlantic

   Fire and explosion on board of the container ship MSC Flaminia, caused full evacuation of the vessel. The ship was carrying over 6500 TEU from the US port Charleston to Antwerpen Belgium, when suffered fire in one of the cargo holds in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. The reason of the fire was most probably due to wrong manifest in the container documents. The ship exploded and after that was caught on fire, which injured 4 crew members. The distress signal was sent from the navigation officer at 1007 on 14th July 2012 and the Falmouth Coastguard asked the crew to abandon the container ship MSC Flaminia. After the accident one of the crew members is missing and 2 are seriously injured. Chariot ship was released from Greek authorities

   The Russian cargo ship Chariot was released and continued the voyage to Bar, Montenegro. As we already informed you, the vessel was arrested yesterday in the Greek port Zakynthos with accuses for traffic of military cargo to Montenegro. The cargo ship Chariot had some undeclared cargo types and some missing documents, which was the reason of the arrest. After the second check of the Greek authorities the ship was released the continue the voyage to the Balkan country with the cargo. However on board of the ship were found large quantity of alcohol and cigarettes, but this was not enough for extending the arrest of the ship, but against the seamen is getting investigation for traffic. The Russian cargo ship Chariot was carrying military cargo from Ukraine to Montenegro and the estimated time of arrival (ETA) is in the afternoon of 13th July 2012.

Chemical Tanker May 1 reported engine failure in the Indian Ocean

   The chemical tanker May 1 reported blackout, while making an empty voyage to the repair yard in Mangalore, India. The ship was in poor condition and has engine problems, which was the reason for the planned repair in the Indian shipyard. The accident happened on a few nautical miles off Colachel port in India. The ship started the voyage from Port Klang, where the officers discharged the cargo and complained from repeated problems in the machinery and the main engine. The ship-owner send the vessel to repair into the yard in Mangalore, but the chemical tanker May 1 suffered more serious engine failure during the voyage. The vessel was blacked out more than 2 hours, but the sea was calm and there were no accidents and no injured people.

Pirates attacked cargo ship near Malaysia

   The pirates' skiff attacked cargo ship near Malaysia and hijacked it. The pirates attacked the vessel, which was operating on regular route near the South Asian island in Pacific ocean. The pirates were armed with guns and automatic weapons and closed the ship, without any suspicion from the navigation officer of the vessel. When the pirate boat was noticed the cargo ship tried to maneuver for escaping, but without any success and the ship was hijacked. The pirates harried the vessel and stole technology equipment, money and mobile phones from the crew. After stoling everything they were able to carry the pirates left the vessel and the cargo ship continued the voyage. On board of the cargo ship were 13 crew members and there are no injured people during the attack.

The Russian ship Chariot was arrested in Greece

   The cargo ship Chariot, which is operating for the Russian company Westberg, was arrested in Greece. The ship was on regular documents check 5.8 nautical miles off Zakynthos port, when the Coast Guard decided to check the cargo type and found ammunitions and arms, which were not declared. The cargo ship Chariot was accused for traffic of arms to Bar, Montenegro. According to the authorities of the Greek port, the ship was used for traffic of ammunitions to the Balkan country through Greece. The crew and the master of the ship were also arrested and during the rummage many more undeclared goods were found, such as cigarettes and alcohol.

   The cargo ship Chariot is the same vessel, which was accused for traffic of arms to Syria a month ago. Then, the ship lost its insurance and was not able to make the delivery of the cargo to the restive country.

Fishing ship sank in Denmark

   The fishing ship Ri 220 Actinia sank near Denmark in North Sea. The vessel got engine failure, which caused blackout. The long continued problem in the engineering headed the ship on beam against the waves, which arouse water ingress in the engine room. The pump for exhaustion of the water, did not started and the fishing vessel Ri 220 Actinia quickly lost stability and turned over after a few minutes. The crew on board escaped from the vessel on life raft, which was later picked from the rescuers. There are no seriously injured people from the crew members and no pollution, which was sighted in the position of the accident.

Iran consider applying taxes for the cargo ships passing Strait of Hormuz

   Iran may start taxing the cargo ships passing the Strait of Hormuz. This news were announced by the official government authorities, and considered by Iranian lawmakers. According to the official communique, the Government Secretariat announced that, the tankers and other vessel, which enter and ext of the Persian Gulf should pay a tax for the environmental damage, which they are causing to the eco-system. The hard measures might be applied to the maritime in the region in the next few months, but the decision is still not approved by the Iran Government and there are no details over the draft bill. Another idea of the Iranian lawmakers is the traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to be restricted at all. of course such idea will not be accepted by the neighbor countries of Iran, as this will seriously hurt their crude oil export. The FPSO Maersk Peregrino was sold

   The most expensive Maersk FPSOs ship Maersk Peregrino was sold to a joint venture company, established by the Norwegian oil company Statoil and their Chinese partner Sinochem. The price of the sale of the largest floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit was announced to be over 1 billion USD, which is also the largest investment, which both companies are making in their joint venture. The global FPSO contractor BW Offshore will charter and take the control of Maersk Peregrino after a transition period of about six months. The CEO of Maersk FPSOs - Stig Hoffmeyer, announced the the company is constantly updating, optimising and investing in modern technologies, which causes the upgrade of their fleet and portfolio. The manager added that this may include divestments, if timing and conditions are right.
