Diana Shipping received the bulk carrier Amphitrite

   The Greek company Diana Shipping Inc took the delivery of the new bulk carrier Amphitrite. The vessel is newly built Post-Panamax dry bulk carrier, which has large capacity, modern design and engineering. The Greek company has contract for time charter of the bulk carrier with the Swiss company Bunge SA. The price of the gross charter rate is 10,000 USD per day and the ship will operate mostly in Western Europe. The cargo ship was built by Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Inc and has total price of 25 million USD. The bulk carrier Amphitrite has deadweight of 98,697 DWT and really was made according to the latest standards for efficiency and profitability. The Greek company is operating with one of the largest fleets in bulk carrying, consisted of 29 dry bulk carriers.

Excelerate Energy ordered eight FSRUs in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering

   The world’s largest operator of regasification ship Excelerate Energy announced that will sign contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering for building of eight Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs). This contract will allow the company to expand its fleet of nine FSRUs and to cover the demands of the LNG import growth. The price of the contract was not announced, but the eight vessels will have length of 294.00 m, beam of 46.00 m and capacity for 173,400 cubic meters. The Floating Storage and Regasification Units will have average send-out capacity of 800 MMcf/d, while the maximum one will be over 950 MMcf/d. The delivery of the eight vessels is expected to be done in 2015 and 2016, when the maritime transport market will have more serious growth according to the analyzers.

Pirates hijacked dhow sailing ship with 6 passengers on board

   Pirates hijacked two dhow sailing vessels 10 nautical miles off the coast of Oman in Arab Sea. First was hijacked a small dhow, which was used only for shortage the distance with the large sailing vessel. The pirates attacked the second sailing ship and hijacked it, leaving the first dhow free. The hijacked vessel had 6 persons on board and sailed in deep water after the pirates attack. The name of the vessel is unknown, but the dhow had small while craft on board and yellow crane, according to the witness evidences. The most interesting and scary thing is that the attack happens a few miles off the Oman coast and one of the largest resorts of the country - Salalah. The navy ships in the vicinity were informed for the pirates attack and god description of the hijacked vessel and started search operations. There is no information about the nationality of the passengers on board of the hijacked dhow vessel.

Tanzania de-registered 36 Iranian crude carriers

   The Tanzanian maritime administration is in process of de-registering 36 Itanian crude oil tankers, in case to avoid any sanctions from Europe and USA, regarding the embargo which was put over the Arab country. The US government warned the African country for actions disturbing the embargo and threatened it with financial and merchant sanctions. A report from US investigation, which was sent to the Tanzanian government, says that 36 crude carrier were reflagged with Tanzanian flag with the support of Dubai shipping agent Philtex. According to the report the government was not aware with the actions of the maritime administration and the low level of verification allowed this violation of the embargo. According to the investigation report, the Iranian government was aware with these legal actions, deliberately seeking backdoor in the world admiralty law.

The container ship Northern Trust was sold to Chinese shipowner

   The container ship Northern Trust was sold to new Chinese shipowner at the price of 6.0 million USD. The cargo ship was part from the fleet of the German company Schluter Karl Reederei, which had serious plans for renovation and improvement of the fleet, making it more flexible and profitable. The new owners of the vessel is a Chinese company, which name is still not announced. The vessel has capacity for 3,300 TEU and good condition, which will allow it to enter in service after the delivery. The container ship Northern Trust was built in 1993 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in their shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The ship is operating under the flag of Liberia and registered in Germanischer Lloyd. The vessel was previously owned by CMA CGM and Cosco, but a few years ago was sold to the German company Schluter Karl Reederei. Th previous names of the ship were Cosco Bremerhaven, Cosco Norfolk, Choyang Phoenix and Ville De Lyra.

The cargo ship Yukka sank in Black Sea

   The general cargo ship Yukka, which caught fire near the Turkish port Cide, sank 2 miles off Eregli port. The firefighting tugs extinguished the fire on board, but meanwhile it seriously damaged the hull and decreased the stability of the vessel. The fire started in the cargo holds and engine room and broke the strength of the Ukrainian general cargo vessel. The tugs tried to tow the cargo ship Yukka to the coast, but during the salvage operations the ship got water ingress from the engine room and broke in the middle. With such serious damages the salvage operations were impossible and Yukka sank near the Turkish coast in the waters of Black Sea. The cargo vessel was operating on route from Istanbul to Rostov-on-Don, Russia loaded with ceramics, glass and textile dye. The 13 crew members were rescued and transported to Inebolu, Turkey, as only two officers has minor injuries.

   The container ship Conti Seattle was sold to Greek Shipowners at price of 5.2 million USD. The cargo ship was owned by Conti Navigare Schiffahrts GmbH & Co and managed by NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. The sale of he container ship will highly support the financial situaion and willsolve some of the debt poblems of the German shpowner. The company announced some of the ship for sale, as part for lage renovation of the fleet and offering more flexible fleet. Definitely such sale will support the financial situation of the German company, which is highly pressed by the investors, banks and shareholders. The sale of container ship Conti Seattle was brokered by the Greek company Alemar Shipping Ltd, but the new owner is not announced in pulicity. The vessel has a few previous names - Delmas Libreville, Tiger Bay, Apl Melbourne, Vancouver, Ivory Star 1, Ccni Antartico and Sea Lynx.

Super-yacht Star Fish was badly damaged by fire

   The super-yacht Star Fish was badly damaged during a large fire in Auckland boat-yard. The yacht was completed on 75% and had to be delivered next year to her the owners. The dock workers made fireworkds in the engine room of the yacht, installing some of equipment, when due to a spark the fresh paint of the hull started burning. More than 90 firefighters battled the blaze during the night, before fully extinguishing the fire. On board of the yacht were stored chemicals, which additionally disturbed the firefighting. The fire was totally extinguished after more than 12 hours and cased damages of the hull, which will delay the deliver with more than 3 months. The director of Auckland boat-yard said on press-release that the reason of the fire was human error by the working teams and during the fire were lost countless hours of working on building the super-yacht Star Fish.

Fire on board of the cable-ship Chamarel off Namibia

   Fire started on board of the cable-ship Chamarel, while operating in cable laying off the coast of Namibia. The accident happened 2-3 nautical miles off the coast, but the crew reacted immidiately to change the course to deep waters. During the accident on board of the vessel were 56 crew members, who were not able to get control of the fire. All the crew members abandoned the cable-ship to a fishing vessel and were transported to the coast. The coast guard was informed about the fire on board late after the crew left the burning ship. The source of the fire on board of the cable-ship Chamarel is still unknown, but the port authorities started investigation of the fire. Most most probably the fire started from the engineering on board due to technical malfunction.
