Capesize Bulk Carrier was sold for scrap

   The cargo ship Bet Scouter (IMO: 9050010) operating under the flag of Isle of Man, was sold for scrap at price of 12,100,000 USD. The vessel was property of Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp, and operated as the part of the company's fleet for 17 years. The cargo ship Bet Scouter was built in 1995 in the shipyard of Santierul Naval Constanta in Romania. The Capesize drybulk vessel has overall length of 296.00 meters, beam of 46.00 meters and maximum draft of 10.20 meters. The cargo ship Bet Scouter has deadweight of 172,173 DWT and gross tonnage of 90,312 GRT. The ship has 9 holds and large cargo capacity, but in the years of financial crisis the company Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp decided to sell it, instead of bankruptcy.

Cargo ship rescued 7 seamen from life raft

   Seven people were rescued from a life craft by the wood chip carrier Forestal Diamante. On board of the cargo vessel received the distress signal from the sinking ship Golden Eagle and headed to the accident area. The cargo ship Forestal Diamante reached the position, which was on about 300 miles North-West of Johnston Atoll, Hawaii. Navigating to the activated EPIRB system, the wood chip carrier found the life craft with seven people on board. After the successful rescue operation the wood chip carrier Forestal Diamante headed to the Johnston Atoll port in Hawaii, where the medical equips will care about the rescued people.

Tanker ran aground in Svir River

   The inland tanker Volgoneft-162 (IMO: 8867131) ran aground in the Svir River, north-east of St. Petersburg, Russia. The tanker was making a voyage between Kashper and St. Petersburg, carrying 4433 tons of heavy oil. Damage into the propulsion system and the steering gear changed the course and the ship has diverged from the navigation channel and ran aground into the mud bank. The tanker Volgoneft-162 got damage in the bow, near the bow thruster. There is no information for injuries and pollution of the water after the accident. On the position there are coast guard tankers and rescue boats.

MOL sells 20 Capesize Bulk Carriers for scrap

   The Japanese maritime transport company MOL plans to sell for scrap 10 to 20 Capesize Bulkcarrier, due to the debt crisis of the company and the worsening market trends. The president of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Koichi Muto told on press-conference that the company is planning to sell up to 20 bulk carrier from its fleet in case to fill the debt hole in budget of the company for the fiscal year. The company scrapped four vessels during the previous year and all of them are 23 years old and more. The plans are the next scrapped ships to be with age over 15 years, and the first five ships will be sold in the end of March 2013.

Passenger ship sank in Philippines

   The old wooden passenger ship Josille II with 59 people on board sank off Pagawanin Island, Philippines. The ship was sailing in bad weather and heavy sea, when a storm was approaching from the southwest and made the situation even worse. The passengers ship Josille II ignored the warnings from the coast guest and meteo-journals and passed through the dangerous area. The large waves and heavy wind broke the hull of the ship and caused large heel and the ship's stability was highly reduced. The ship sank very fast and all the people gone on water. The rescue boats and nearby sailing ships arrived quickly to the position of the accident and 54 people were saved with minor injuries. However, the bodies of 5 people were taken from the water later dead.

   One of the largest container ships of the world, which was ordered by Danaos Corporation (DAC) in Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co Ltd will be delivered on 7th June 2012. The cargo ship was named Hyundai Speed and has capacity for 13,100 TEU. The ship has overall length of 366.00 m, while the length between perpendiculars is 350.00 m. The beam of the cargo ship is 48.20 m and the draft is 14.60 m. The gross tonnage of the container ship Hyundai Speed is 142,400 g.t. and the incredible capacity is for 13,100 TEUs according to IMO calculations and 12,500 TEU according to company calculations. The cargo ship is impressive in engineer point of view and has really improved stability and design, which increases the strength of the ship and the speed. The service speed of the new vessel is 24.70 knots, which is quite high speed even for container ship. The cargo ship was ordered together with 4 more container carriers in Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co Ltd.

Cargo ship sank in Demerara River

   The general cargo ship Miss Ellisa sank in Demerara River, Guyana. The ship was loaded with a cargo of coconuts, rice and poles in Georgetown, Guyana and headed to Trinidad and Tobago, when after a board wave the cargo shifted and ship got large heel. The crew on board tried to turn the ship back to the harbor, but the heel increased and the ship capsized and sank in the river. Six from the all Seven crew members on board were saved, but the ship's cook is still missing. The salvage operation continue and in the position of the accident there are two boats and divers, who are looking for the missing seaman. The main reason for such tragic accident was the despiseth cargo operations and bad cargo stowage. The local authorities are still investigation the incident and do not give more details.
