Greek company sales two product tanker

   The Greek company NewLead Holdings Ltd announced the plans to sale two of its product tankers - Hiona and Hiotissa. The total price of the deal will be about 57.0 million USD, which will cover the debt of 18.1 million USD, which the company has. NewLead Holdings Ltd made an agreement with Piraeus Bank SA to released from all obligations and to make full restructure. The financial crisis and the debt crisis in Greece collapsed the cargo market and the maritime transport, so many companies are forced to sell their activities, such as NewLead Holdings Ltd. The deal is expected to finish in the third quarter of 2012 and will save the company from bankruptcy, in spite of the decreased fleet, which the company will have. Bulk Carrier ran aground near Tunisia

   The Capesize bulk carrier Flash ran aground in a mud bank near Galite Islands in Tunisia. The cargo vessel was operating on route from Baltimore to Taranto, carrying 126,000 tons of coal. The ship Flash got damage in the hull, as some of the ballast tanks are completely damaged, as the plate of the engine room is crackled too. During the accident there are no injuries and pollution, but however the coast guard is informed about the accident. The salvage operation will be started in the next hours, because some of the cargo and fuel should be discharged from the ship.

The ULCC TI Europe

   The ULCC (Ultra Large Cruise Carrier) TI Europe is one of the largest vessels of the world built ever. The oil tanker together with her sister-ships are forming the largest capacity vessels, as each of them can carry more than 3.2 millions of barrels crude oil. TI Europe is real giant of the seas, with impressive stability, increased strength of the hull and strong engineering. Only a couple of ports in the world can host such large vessel, so TI Europe is usually loaded in discharged on platforms and terminals 1-2 nautical miles off the port. The length of the ULCC TI Europe is 380.00 meters, the beam is 68.00 meters, the depth is 24.50 meters and the summer maximum draft is 13.40 meters. TI Europe is really built according to the latest requirements of IMO with double hull and double bottom, to prevent the sea from pollution in possible accident. Cargo ship and high speed ferry collided in Greek port

   The ferry Highspeed 5 was hit by the cargo ship St. Helena in the port of Mykonos in Greece. The cargo vessel got engine failure into the Greek port. Due to the flow inside the ship started drifting to the pier and hit the high speed ferry, which was moored there. Because of the collision the ferry Highspeed 5 got small cleft below the waterline and damages in the drivetrain. The ship got sufficient damages and should pass through inspection and repair. The voyage of the ferry Highspeed 5 from Mykonos to Tinos-Syros was canceled and all the 120 passengers were transfered to another ferry. The local authorities are investigating the accident.

LNG Lerici gas carrier

   The cargo ship LNG Lerici is gas carrier, which is really large and impressive vessel. The construction of the hull and the improved design are making this vessel strong, powerful and profitable. The ship was built in the Fincantieri shipyard in 1998 and operated by LNG Shipping S.p.A. The improvements integrated into the design, stability and safety on board are making the ship important for the maritime transport. LNG Lerici has length of 216.14 meters, beam of 33.90 meters, depth of 21.26 meters and draft of 8.20 meters. The total height of the ship is 54.00 meters and the air draft is 46.00 meters. The ship has large cargo capacity, as the deadweight is 35,761 tons, gross tonnage is 46,555 GRT and the net tonnage 13,966 tons. The ship has improved design, so the cargo capacity is 65,299 cubic meters, which is quite high value for the gas carrier with such size.

Pirates attacked LNG Aries

   The cargo ship LNG Aries was attacked by pirates off Masirah Island, Arabian sea. The cargo ship was carrying natural gas, when one skiff with 5-6 persons aboard attacked the ship and fired several shots to the LNG Carrier. The pirates were not able to board the cargo vessel, due to good maneuvers of the duty navigation officer and the army forces interaction of the closest military ship. On board of the cargo ship LNG Aries there were no armed guard in spite of the area of operation. The pirates attacks became more frequent again, as they attacked around the shores of Somalia a few cargo vessels. The LNG Carriers are quite defenceless, as the cargo on board is highly explodable. On board of the skiff, which attacked LNG Aries there were also RPG, which might cause serious damage of the vessel with such kind of cargo, but fortunately it was not used by the pirates.

Hakki Cillioglu went ashore in Black Sea

   The cargo ship Hakki Cillioglu ran aground during a storm in Black Sea. The ship was moored into the port of Pitsunda, Abkhazia when strong winds broke the ropes and the ship went aground on the nearest beach. There are no damages over the hull of the cargo ship Hakki Cillioglu, and the freighter Apsini tried to pull is back to the sea, but failed after snapping of two ropes. There is no planned salvage operation for bringing the ship back at sea, as it is not clear if the shipowner has funds to pay about it. The cargo ship was staying into the port for several months, because the vessel suffered damage into the steering gear and needed to be repaired. Because of this fact the ship was left by many crew members. It is not clear what will be the future of the cargo ship Hakki Cillioglu and the shipowner still do not comment the accident.

Freighter with 100 immigrants ran agrount in Puerto Rico

   The The cargo ship Jireh ran aground in Puerto Rico after strucking a reef. The ship was on route to St Martin with 100 immigrants, when a navigation error caused damage of the hull and the ship ran aground on the Mona Island. Large part of the passengers and the crew left the vessel and stayed on the island waiting for Coast Guard to come to the scene of the accident. The ship has serious damages into the hull, but no injuries and pollution was reported.

   The distress signal was sent from the cargo ship was sent at 0650 on Thursday and the Coast Guard immidiately sent helicopter to the scene. The federal and state agencies were also notified for the accident and for the immigrants. All the local authorities are working together doe transfer of the passengers and crew on board to the closest port.

Container ship got engine failure off Thessaloniki

   The container ship Jaguar got blackout and was disabled near Greece. The vessel left Thessaloniki port with course to Piraeus, while a few miles off suffered engine failure and left drifting. The cargo ship sent distress signal, but meanwhile the problem was fixed by the duty engineers and the vessel returned to the Thessaloniki port. After inspection and repair by the local specialists, the vessel resumed the voyage to Piraeus. On board of the container carrier there were 1122 TEU for various ports in Greece and Black Sea. The accident caused no damages, no pollution and no injured crew members. The ship is working as freighter collecting container from various small ports for large container ships, which are making long international voyages.

Trans Scandic was sold to Khatanga Sea Port

   The chemical tanker Trans Scandic (IMO: 9000247) was sold to the company Khatanga Sea Port Company on 9th June 2012. The tanker was previously owned by Seatrans - Bergen, Norway and with the brokerage of Rossfraght was sold to the Russian company. The vessel was built in 1992 in Suerken Hermann in Papenburg, Germany and till that moment was operating under the flag of Malta. The ship Trans Scandic has length of 117.00 meters, beam of 20.00 meters and draft of 6.20 m. The ship is quite large for the chemical tanker and has deadweight of 6,760 DWT and gross tonnage of 5,025 GRT. The ship will operate in inner fleet into the Russian country and is the first chemical tanker of the company.
