Explosion on MSC Flaminia in the mid Atlantic

   Fire and explosion on board of the container ship MSC Flaminia, caused full evacuation of the vessel. The ship was carrying over 6500 TEU from the US port Charleston to Antwerpen Belgium, when suffered fire in one of the cargo holds in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. The reason of the fire was most probably due to wrong manifest in the container documents. The ship exploded and after that was caught on fire, which injured 4 crew members. The distress signal was sent from the navigation officer at 1007 on 14th July 2012 and the Falmouth Coastguard asked the crew to abandon the container ship MSC Flaminia. After the accident one of the crew members is missing and 2 are seriously injured. The scene of the incident was in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, so the closest vessels were about 6 hours away from MSC Flaminia, but when getting the distress signal changed courses to the ship in fire. Chemical Tanker May 1 reported engine failure in the Indian Ocean

   The chemical tanker May 1 reported blackout, while making an empty voyage to the repair yard in Mangalore, India. The ship was in poor condition and has engine problems, which was the reason for the planned repair in the Indian shipyard. The accident happened on a few nautical miles off Colachel port in India. The ship started the voyage from Port Klang, where the officers discharged the cargo and complained from repeated problems in the machinery and the main engine. The ship-owner send the vessel to repair into the yard in Mangalore, but the chemical tanker May 1 suffered more serious engine failure during the voyage. The vessel was blacked out more than 2 hours, but the sea was calm and there were no accidents and no injured people.

Pirates attacked cargo ship near Malaysia

   The pirates' skiff attacked cargo ship near Malaysia and hijacked it. The pirates attacked the vessel, which was operating on regular route near the South Asian island in Pacific ocean. The pirates were armed with guns and automatic weapons and closed the ship, without any suspicion from the navigation officer of the vessel. When the pirate boat was noticed the cargo ship tried to maneuver for escaping, but without any success and the ship was hijacked. The pirates harried the vessel and stole technology equipment, money and mobile phones from the crew. After stoling everything they were able to carry the pirates left the vessel and the cargo ship continued the voyage. On board of the cargo ship were 13 crew members and there are no injured people during the attack.

Missing seaman from motor vessel Gallia

   The motor vessel Gallia send a distress signal for missing seaman , during a voyage between the Cyprus port Limassol and the Croatian port Trieste. The ship reported about missing crew member in the region southwest of Palagruza. The missing person was Croatian seaman and most probably fell over board. The region of the accident is situated in Croatian waters, close to the maritime border with Italy. In the search and rescue operations are engaged the Coast Guard vessel "Andrija Mohorovicic" and some Italian ships, aircrafts and helicopters. The cargo ship Gallia was carrying containers to the Croatian port Trieste. The local authorities started investigation over the accident and the reason for seaman falling overboard.

Ferry Ebba Brahe collided in stone pier

   The ferry Ebba Brahe hit a dock in the port of Granna on the Lake Vattern. The ferry was operatingon regular voyage from Visingso to Granna with 22 cars and 199 passengers. During the maneuvers for berthing on the quay of Granna port, the ship collided with the stone pier. The maneuvering was made with higher speed than usual, which caused the accident. After the collision of the ferry Ebba Brahe, a few passengers fell overboard and several car crashed each other. The ship also suffered sufficient damages in the bow and was not able to continue the planned voyages. A few passengers were transported in the local hospital with slight injuries. The local authorities are investigating the reasons for the accident. The ship was taken to the dry dock for recovery and repair, which will take at least 1 week.

Australian navy ship rescued 160 asylum seekers

   The Australian rescue ships and navy vessel rescued boat with about 160 immigrants, which sent distress signal and cater capesized on 63 miles off Java island. The Australian navy ships made the salvage operations to save the people, who were classified as asylum seekers from the Indonesian authorities. Australian rescue center informed the Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency about the boat, which was north of Java island. The island is some kind of borders between the both rescue centers, and the management of the operations depends of the distress position of the vessel. However the Australian rescue boats started the operation and saves lives of more than 160 people. According to the press and official authorities on board of the boat were between 130 and 180 passengers, who were illegal immigrants headed to Australia. Chemical Tanker ran aground in Rhine river

   The chemical tanker Synthese-3, carrying sulphur acid, ran aground in Rhine river, near the city Oberwesel. The ship hit a mud bank during operation with 1300 tons of the dangerous chemical cargo, due to maneuvering operations. The navigation officer, changed the course to more appropriate position, but did not calculated the stream and the ship hit a mud bank, which was not corrected on the ship's chart. The chemical tanker Synthese-3 ran aground and was not able to refloat by itself. The distress signal was sent to the port authorities and coast guard. There is no damage of the hull, no injured crew members and no leak of sulphur acid in the river. The official announcement of the port authorities, tells that there is no danger of major disaster. The tanker will be refloated soon, but before the salvage operations need of lightering of the vessel.

Sea Angel ship sank in India during towing

   The bulk carrier Sea Angel sank, while being undertow from m/v Morning Star. The accident happened 6.5 nautical miles off Kochi, near the Munambam harbour. The main reason for the unexpected sank of the ship was the rough sea and the strong wind, which hit the board of the bulk carrier. The ship Sea Angel was towed to the breaking yard at the port of Azhikkal, where should be scrapped. The vessel is quite old, and has serious engine failure, which was too expensive for the shipowner and they refused to use this ship anymore. During the accident there are no injured crew members and no pollution, but the responsibility for the wreck removal will be at ship owners and the agents.

Cargo ship ran aground in Scotland

   The cargo ship Coastal Isle went aground in rocks one nautical miles off Bute, Scotland. The ship was proceeding through the Great Crumbae, when due to navigation error of the duty officer, the ship struck rocks. The vessel Coastal Isle sent distress signal to the Clyde Coastguard about the accident. The coast guards monitored the situation of the vessel before arriving of the tugs. The ship has no serious damages of the hull, and was able to continue the voyage to Greenock, where will have full inspection. There are no injured seamen and no pollution in the vicinity of the accident. The cargo ship was operating fully loaded with cargo from Belfast to Greenock. The weather in the area was good, the sea was calm and only the low concentration of the duty officer caused this incident.

Bulgarian cargo ship Seawind sank in Brazil

   The Bulgarian general cargo ship Seawind sank near the shores of Brazil. The cargo ship was on anchorage in front of port Fortaleza. On board of the cargo ship there were 13 seamen, 2 of which were Bulgarians. All the seamen were rescued and there are no reports for injuries. The information from master of the ship Nikolai Simeonov was that the ship started flooding from the starboard side on 27th June and for a few hours the water in engine room was over 20 cm. According to the master of the ship, they could not react because the water ingress was too fast.
